 The
Newtown Florist Club began as a group of dedicated women who came together
to collect money for flowers whenever there was a funeral in the
area. Gradually, the members of the club became community
activists. They saw their good friends and neighbors dying, often
mysteriously. So many of their loved ones were passing away due to
lupus, cancer and other suspicious health problems. As the death
toll got higher and higher, members of the Newtown Florist Club began
wondering about the unusually high rate of health problems in the
area. They learned about the environmental justice movement, stopped
"wondering" and started demanding answers.Next
